Seatrout is the main reason why anglers from all Europe come every year to Fyn.

Sea trout fishing is the main reason why anglers from across Europe return every year to Fyn. We have thousands of of anglers coming back every year to enjoy our Coastal fishing. Our Island is a unique and fantastic place. You will fish in a variety of natural locations on the coast, over reefs, and from sandy beaches. This is not a 20 fish in a day destination, therefore if you are in search of that our destination is not for you. But, if you are looking for a fantastic fishing experience and the satisfaction of catching fish with “value added”, then you must try this experience.
Fly fishing, spinning, and bombarda are the techniques to use to catch these fish. Sea trout are very strong and are known for jumping spectacularly once hooked. Sea trout vary in size, with many fish averaging 35-55 cm, but there are fish of 60-80cm. The trout of a lifetime, with the added value of having caught it in the sea.
Not least, our seatrouts are very strong and perform spectacular jumps!

Sea trouts are catchable all year round, however every season have some peculiarity:

★★★★★ Spring fishing for sea trout:

“Catching a spring silver beauty on our crystal clear water, is an experience that every skilled anglers have to try”

Late winter and spring are the periods where sea trout runs back to the sea after been spawning in rivers. March, April, May are the months where seatrouts are very active and feeding near the coasts. There is plenty of fish along the coasts in spring, therefor this is one of the best period for fishing here. Though there are many active sea trout near the coast, it is always important to find them and move a lot while fishing.

★★★ Summer fishing for sea trout:

“A sunset over the calm sea, a good beer with fishing friends and a couple of nice seatrouts…memorable evenings”

As the water temperature rises, the salt tolerance of trout increases correspondingly. However, the water temperature can get too high along the coast so typically in June the sea trout head further out from the shore towards deeper, cooler waters. But…the shallow coastal waters are still very rich in food so the sea trout head for the coastline under cover of darkness, when also water temperature is lower. At the same time, anglers can take advantage of the beautiful and very light summer evenings, therefor being on the coast for fishing in evenings, nights and sunrises can be very productive and give really nice catches.

★★★ Autumn fishing for sea trout:

“Now silver and “gold” seatrouts are mixed and active near the coast, what will be your next catch?”

By now, the majority of sea trout have spent the spring and summer gorging themselves, ready to cope with the strenuous autumn spawning migration, and building up supplies of roe and soft-roe. The autumn migration is generally in August-September. The fish recognize the start of autumn immediately and perceive their spawning migration is imminent. In Autumn sea trout are active near the coast, especially fjords and bays, often colored (freshwater spawning colours) and in nice conditions.
Togheter with Spring, Autumn is a top season for fishing seatrouts.

★ Winter fishing for sea trout:

“The silver challenge is even more difficult, but if you are lucky, some days…”

Sea trout fishing on Fyn between December and February can be unpredictable. The water is cold and the fish are not very active. In winter the trout that are not into the rivers for spawning, have a strong tendency to shoal and hunt together. If you are lucky enough to happen upon such a shoal, an unproductive day can suddenly turn into a real fairytale, but said that, it is a difficult fishing in cold conditions where the air temperature can be -10° or less.

Steelhead!? There are some schools of rainbow trout along our coast. While it is not common to catch them, it can be possible to come in contact with a strong rainbow! These fish were introduced by humans and occasionally escape from farms and have adapted very well to the marine environment.
